GreenEng 201/301 9/9- Slatwall, bike blender, Aquaponics Design

Adam-

  • Document your work
  • Research your project- how have others attacked your problem in the past?
  • Record where you got the information- URLs,etc.

  • Aquaponics group--what do you need for wood, etc? Send in a list
  • Maddie- Research various Slatwall storage systems- slatts and accessories- as needed to create a wall-mounted project display area.

Aquaponics group cleaned out the tank.

Bicycle blender project-

Bicycle can only generate 60-100 watts; blender requires 800 watts at 115V- drive needs to be mechanical.

Receiver amplifier rated at 200W.

Hard to blend ice.

cut down mechanical disk to save weight-- would be easier with a bandsaw.

Toby cut up plastic milk cartons to recycle into deck of fused plastic longboard.

Aquaponics group-

  • Make a plan and bill of materials. CAD your design if possible.

Open-ended projects-- the curriculum is the process rather than the content.

Ideal is when the Green Engineering majors help to teach the Exploratory-- gives the program and the process lots of recognition.

Ben-

The Greenengineering 101's are starting with paper vehicles  "Move It" challenge( http://pbskids.org/zoom/activities/sci/puffmobile.html ).

Think about Shop layout.

Visitor- Cedric, Green Engineering Graduate, now at University of New Hampshire in Chemical Engineering.
