Oct 24th- GreenEng101- Safety Review

Shop Safety Scavenger Hunt

Class will divide into 4-person teams.

Each team will have a sheet--Can you find the things on the sheet in the shop?

Active Safety
is the continuous identification of hazards and the management of risks involved in every lab and shop.

" The hazard is the shark in the swimming pool- the risk is swimming with it."

Each team has to draw a plan of the GreenEngineering Lab--on the plan, highlight the critical safety features for all 4 stations, with locations/functions noted on the plan. This must be completed as evidence.

Start Locations- follow the clues

Team 1- Fire Extinguishers--how many and where?
Team 2- First Aid Kits- how many and where?
Team 3- Emergency Power shut-offs--how many and where?
Team 4- Extra and Stored  Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) - how many and where?

Bonus questions-

  • How many of different kinds of PPE can you name?
  • Identify all of the specific Hazard areas in the Lab( hint, the entire lab is not a hazard area)
  • What do the letters S.L.A.M. stand for in Lab Safety?
  • What do the letters P.P.E. stand for in Lab Safety?

Scavenger Hunt Rules:

  • Every team will go to each location as a group in a safe and orderly manner
  • Each person in each team must see the item and know the location.
  • Each group will designate two people to keep track and write/draw answers.
  • Teams must stop after 30 minutes and report back to the not-so-bored room with their results.
